STR FOR A STAFF MONK IS USLESS EVEN WITH HIGH STR YOU STILL DONT DO THAT MUCH DAMAGE YOU NEED HIGH HIT POINTS TO LAST DODGE IS GOOD GEAR TO HAVE BUT IV FOUND THAT WITH GOOD BLUE STAFF YOU BLOCK 3 MORE TIMES THAN YOU DODGE BUT DODGE GEAR RAISES HIT POINTS ALOT. MONK HEART LOTUS FOR A STAFF MONK IS USLESS AS STATED ABOVE YOUR ATTACK IS ALWAYS LOW SO THAT EXTRA COUPLE POINTS AINT GONNA MATTER USE HIT POINT BUFF BEST THING FOR YA BETTER AN EXTRA 1000 HIT POINTS THAN AN EXTRA 50 ATTACK POINTS IF ENY MORE QUESTIONS JUST ASK

I totally agree str is not very useful for monks. It does add some damage but not that much. I talked to fu before when I compared the armor vit/dodge VS str/vit.

str/vit
75 str = 15 damage
82 vit = 410 hp

vit/dodge
104 vit = 526 hp
180 dodge = 4.47 %

If we take out 410 hp from both armors. It ends up with:
15 damage VS 116hp + 4.47% dodge.
It's up to you to choose between them. I go with the dodge gear cause I think +15 damage is almost useless at my level. But it can be useful when you want to level up fast and grind fast.

The extra hp also adds more if you have a good pet with hp upper and some +hp% gears. My armor actually gives me about 600hp.



Heart lotus is useful for me depending on what I'm playing. I filled it up all the time to help grinding. At lvl 62 lotus gives me 64 attack points that's actually +64 damage. You would need full CS Vigor gears to give you that much +damage. It helps me grind faster.

When I grind mobs, level up, or tank cave mobs, I don't care about more hp, extra damage is all I need to make it fast.

At tough bosses, it's clearly we need to max out hp. But you might not need to max out hp when you do easy bosses. You dont need 9k hp to tank LW.

At PvP, hp is king.

For staff monk, it will give bash more damage that's a lot more agro. At boss if you already block 30% and you might not need to max out HP like shovel monks do. Staff grind mobs slow, the extra damage is not bad.

sorry for the caps vince but im at work and the program we use caps on everything so i fogot to switch hope your not blind now lol

vince is right on alot of that the only reason i say high hit points the better is cause i catch alot of lagg in spots and if im soloing a boss and it laggs for 30 secs that extra 1000 hit points comes in handy

mainly its a personel prference between because is use STR/VIT gear i dont use dodge i try to lvl my chac. out so i can still do a lil bit of damage on bosses and staff is the weakest weapon in the game
damage wise but it holds aggro so i guess thats its trade.

heart lotus used to be alot better before the patch that killed the monk most of us older player no about that patch and we know how much it effected monks and fairys .

and another thing dont underestamate putting points in some of the staffs skills the fire , -def, and -attack the stun on that one comes in handy

WOW - niiice explanations guys! I really appreciate it for draco! I hit level50 now- YAY - and I want to be able to tank most effectively! It'll be interesting how I do since I will have some gear that's green (for now, probably) and most of it is str/vit. Plus I have bought some blue gear that str or vit - with dodge.
Think I'll start with a pet points reset book and set it all on Vit! teehee

can i get a ss of points in skills for shovel and staff please and ty i wanna make a dual monk but only use staff for caves etc and shovel for war when i get high enough and thanks to all for answering my endless question while making him and when i'm high enough i well love to be trained on tanking caves with both weapons )

sorry amb i cant take ss it frezzes my game and still wont take it. i will answer your question in game you will be surprised by the answer cause i set my staff up for harder caves with a group. so its a bit diff. than if you set it up to solo or just grind with staff

This is my current spec.



Shovel's major damage comes from Giant Burst, but it takes time to build up 5 combos. So Improve Giant Attack to use less stamina is the most important thing to do. Other improves are to add more damage.

The 3 improves I didn't do because they are not used very often.
- Giant Halt is good only when you start a boss at long distance (to avoid their first AOE). And also good in pvp. I do not use it for mobs cause it cause too much stamina and it does not build up combo.
- Giant Break is useless, 5 seconds stun can't compare to Burst 500% damage. And this stun wont work with cave bosses.
- Giant Raid is also useless, monk don't get behind enemy very often. And it costs too many stamina to get a single combo.

Improve Giant Break for 30% buddha damage is pretty interesting for me. That means I can build combo: 1 Attack - Break - 5 Attacks - Burst
The 5 Attacks and last Burst will get 30% extra damage. And that's a lot!!!
But I'm not sure how long the effect will last, need to try to lvl up some shovel.

If it works well I might switch 5 points from Improve 10% damage or 5% CS to this.[img][/img]

I tried out Improve Giant Break. The extra damage last as long as the stun last so 5 secs max. And it does not work on cave bosses. So it's another disappointed skill.

For tanking go with my spec.

For tanking, use staff, better than shovel. WIth a +6 blue staff, can hold aggro from a fairy with +7 blue wheels (perhaps more +). Grinding is good to use shovel if you want to kill faster (esp with heart lotus damage too) BUT if you want to grind more continuously without having to rest, use staff. Your choice

im a newer player here....so... i had a lot of char... wizz, monk, fairy and asasin....ill try all chars but in a low lvl... ^_^ ....
